The WhatsOn.com Radio Player is built with Microsoft Windows Media (ActiveX) technology. WhatsOn.com officially supports Internet Explorer (I.E.) on the PC (running XP or Vista), Windows Media Player (WMP, version 10+) and using I.E. (version 6+). Note: for most PC users WMP comes as standard.
Click here to download WMP or to update to the latest version.
WhatsOn.com does not officially support other web browser types: Firefox (Gecko), Safari, Opera etc., or other platforms (Mac, Linux, etc). If you are not using a PC or Internet Explorer, you may find the WhatsOn.com Radio Player does not load or that some of the functions are disabled. Therefore the information below is intended as a guide only and is NOT officially supported.
Mozilla Firefox users will notice that the Listen Again function has been disabled, this is because the media player transport tool cannot be embedded via "ActiveX" technology - only supported by Microsoft Internet Explorer for Windows.
To enable the listen-again function, Firefox currently offer a free downloadable add-on called "IE Tab" that allows Internet Explorer to be embedded within Firefox tabs. For more information on this extension please refer to the Mozilla main site here. (IE Tab is only available for Windows users).
As with Mozilla users, the Listen Again function has disabled for the same reasons detailed above.
All station live streams are available on the Mac platform, minimum requirements (for reliability) OSX 10.4 or greater.
Additional downloads (both free) are needed to hear the live stream; either Flip4Mac or Windows Media Player.
For Safari or Firefox users version 2 or above is required.
Note: The Listen Again function on Macs is disabled, please refer to point 2.1.
For listen-again programmes, or any programme containing copyrighted material, the rewind capability been disabled and forward-wind is restricted to 5 or 15 minute blocks. This is to comply with music licencing conditions for streaming Listen Again audio.
For shows that do not contain copyrighted content, the embedded transport still retains the slider tool.
Current UK music licensing laws prevent us from offering radio station listen-live and listen-again streams outside of the UK.
The exception to this is the City Talk radio station which is speech-only and falls outside current licensing regulations.
What this means is that visitors to WhatsOn.com who are trying to listen from outside the United Kingdom will find that the web site will load but the listen-live stream will not play.
